Artistic Director: Julia Williams
Julia trained as a teacher specialising in Dance and went on to be the Dance Adviser for Cheshire County Council for over 20 years.  During that time she became an OFSTED inspector and achieved a Master’s degree in Arts Education. She then left the North West to become National Programme Leader for Dance in schools and colleges with Youth Dance England and continued to develop her national role as Director of the National Dance Teachers’ Association. Julia has always had a passion for teaching and is now back in Chester developing her role as Director of Homegrown Dance Theatre, a company providing Dance experiences for children and young people. Julia directed ‘Carpe Diem’, a large scale performance held in Chester Cathedral in 2010, and continues to contribute to large events including the Olympic Torch relay both in Chester and Knutsford, The Chester Giants (a community opera produced by Theatre in the Quarter) and the BBC Music Nation event held in Chester’s ampitheatre.
Associate Director: Vicky Sheard
Vicky has taught Dance in secondary schools in Cheshire over the past fifteen years. Cheshire born, Vicky has grown up experiencing and enriching her enthusiasm and passion for Dance through the variety and accessible Dance culture within the county. This has strived her dedication and commitment to providing inspiring Dance experiences for youngsters across the county. During her training Vicky gained a BA (Hons) degree and PGCE. Throughout her teaching experience she has delivered strong levels of Dance at Key Stage Three, GCSE and A Level and continues to value and provide extra curricular opportunities to enhance studies within lessons. Vicky has also worked extensively in Primary schools providing feeder primary schools with sources, teaching ideas and project based work annually. Over the past twelve years Vicky has echoed and supported much of the residential work within the county led by Julia Williams (Advisor for Dance in Cheshire up until October 2008) including annual October and GCSE residential at the Conway Centre, week-long residential trips to The London Contemporary Dance School and international Dance trip to Paris. During 2008 – 2009 Vicky was the seconded advisor for Dance in the county and planned, managed and facilitated all county INSET, residential, GCSE and A Level provision as well as co-managing the Cheshire County Youth Dance Company, Junior Youth Group and Cheshire Boys.
Associate Artist: Alice Joynson
Alice completed professional training at the Hammond School of Dance in 2010 gaining a Trinity Level 6 (Hons) National Diploma in Classical Dance. This also included touring the U.K and Germany as part of the graduate company and performing alongside Vienna Festival Ballet. She then went on to graduate from Middlesex University in 2012 with an BA (hons) Degree in Dance Teaching, focusing her studies on integrated dance for children through community dance. Over the past 6 years Alice has been the BTEC Dance Coordinator at Upton–by–Chester High school, leading and delivering BTEC Level 3 performing arts also delivering dance to all year groups, producing over 20 dance showcases, and also 6 musical productions. In 2014 Alice joined Homegrown Dance Theatre delivering GCSE, A level and BTEC dance in FE and Secondary Education while also working as a dance artist on numerous Homegrown Projects. Most recently Alice founded a dance training school (JDT), delivering advanced contemporary and ballet. Alice can also deliver a wider variety of dance genres, including: Jazz, musical theatre and tap.
